Travel through the history of Kajaani city hall and solve interesting puzzles.

In Raatihuone, the player takes the role of a janitor who is tasked with fixing the city hall clock. After fixing said clock, the player is transported back in time to 1930’s and has to solve puzzles in order to find a way back home. After finding and fixing the clock in the 1930’s, the player is transported thirty years into the future to the 1960’s, where they, yet again, need to solve puzzles and find a way back home.

  • Gameplay

    While the game can be played with a mouse and keyboard, the game was developed to be a virtual reality experience. The player can travel through different teleportation points and interact with the game world. They’re tasked with completing puzzles and activities in different eras, such as setting paintings in the correct order, fixing various clocks, and signing documents.

  • Teaching Content

    The game aims to teach and tell the history of Kajaani city hall through interactive play. While exploring the site throughout the eras, the player learns many interesting tidbits about the history and the different stages of the city hall. Players will learn how the city hall operated in different times and how it used to look throughout its’ history.

  • Game Creation

    The game environment was modeled in co-operation with the Finnish museum association and utilized old pictures and documents to accurately match the 30’s and 60’s. In-house graphical artists made all of the models and the VR aspect and general gameplay was achieved using the Unreal Engine 4 by an in-house programming team.

  • Future Development

    Raatihuone is part of a project investigating new methods for presenting art and other museum content in a refreshing and intriguing way. The development team is very interested in developing more art or history related projects, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you are likewise interested in developing something similar.
